ChatGPT is 80% useless at work: Beware the LinkedIn AI snake oil
I tested ChatGPT to breaking point with simple editing tasks, and relatively simple data formatting. It is, at best, about as reliable as an intern who doesn’t give a shit.
Firstly, I would like to calmly and rationally declare I am a big fan of ChatGPT and all generative AI platforms. But I am not going to buy into the crap about transformation. It’s not there yet. Not even close.
Generative AI offers significant potential for the development of new skills, research, teaching, enabling creativity, coding, and personalised learning. The core value proposition is personalised automation of repetitive tasks, and with some careful monitoring, that could be useful in our daily and working lives. But it’s not there yet. It’s getting closer.
The truth, though, is that it’s way too unreliable to build into your working processes right now. It remains far too unreliable to deploy effectively at work unless it is in the most basic capacities, with extensive human oversight. That is not to say you can’t use it and get benefits from it, but you’ll need to do a lot more work to get good results than the hype-heavy romance of social media leads you to believe.
